JOB TITLE: Contact Lens Technician

REPORTS TO: Clinic Manager

JOB SUMMARY: The Contact Lens Technician is responsible for ordering and distributing contact lenses

and giving instruction on the insertion and removal of contact lenses.

Experience in healthcare/eye care field desirable High School Diploma

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Respond to inquiries, process payments and take lens orders over the phone, via fax, webstore and/or email in a timely manner.
  • Prepare incoming lens orders and call to inform patients that their orders are available.
  • Complete incoming contact lens verification as required by FTC Contact Lens Rule and notate patient chart accordingly.
  • Instruct patients on insertion, removal and care of soft lenses, rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses and scleral lenses
  • Educate patients on various contact lens fitting options, when applicable, and provide price quotes accordingly.
  • Complete necessary consent forms for contact lens fittings and the MiSight myopia management program.
  • Schedule contact lens fittings, annual lens exams and problem-focused contact lens visits when necessary.
  • Submit contact lens fittings and orders to insurances such as Eyemed and VSP.
  • Coordinate between optometrists and consultation teams for custom lens designers.
  • Function as line of communication between optometrists and representatives of various contact lens manufacturers.
  • Maintain contact lens trial room by ordering stock trials and rotating out soon to expire trials.
  • Monthly inventory of contact lens pickup drawer and dispensed drawer.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

JOB TITLE: Ophthalmic Technician

REPORTS TO: Clinic Manager

JOB SUMMARY: The Ophthalmic Assistant will demonstrate consistent and efficient quality patient preparation for the physician exam and will contribute to overall team performance while achieving consistent positive patient experiences. The Ophthalmic Assistant will provide assistance to the physician and the patient in a compassionate, professional manner.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

  • Collect information from the patient and enter into a computerized record management system.
  • Perform a variety of testing procedures with and for patients.
  • Assist the physician with minor office procedures.
  • Perform vision screenings.
  • Process prescriptions.
  • Triage patient telephone calls.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent communication with Supervisors and Peers.
  • Attention to Detail — Job requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Work directly with Ophthalmologists and Optometrists to ensure ease of patient flow and excellent patient care.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician (preferred)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching outward, reaching above shoulder, squatting or kneeling, bending. Frequent lifting of 10 pounds or less, occasional lifting of 11-50 pounds. Frequent pushing or pulling of 12 pounds or less, occasional pushing or pulling of 13-100 pounds.

OTHER PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Vision (Near, Distance, Color, Peripheral, Depth Perception)
  • Sense of sound (normal range of hearing)
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (gloves, face mask, eye shield, gown)

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • An office environment with a controlled atmosphere. Possible exposure to staff or patients with communicable diseases and blood borne pathogens.

JOB TITLE:              Optician

REPORTS TO:         Optical Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY:    The Dispensing Optician is responsible for providing patients with professional service by evaluating prescriptions and making appropriate recommendations to serve the patient’s visual requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

  • At least two years training experience as a Certified Optician preferred.

Education:

  • High School Diploma

Certifications:

  • American Board of Opticianry Certification (preferred)

Abilities:

  • Proficient in basic math skills.
  • Ability to work with the public.
  • Capable of troubleshooting.
  • Possess excellent telephone manner.
  • Deliver a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely fashion with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Computer Skills
  • Multi-tasking in busy environment
  • Work collaboratively with team members and other departments

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist and/or advise patients with frame/lens selection and recommend visual solutions based on patients’ unique needs, activities or lifestyle.
  • Troubleshoot eyeglass problems including verifying Rx for accuracy with lensometer.
  • Accurately order prescription lenses through a variety of portals and communicate effectively with lens lab.
  • Notify patients when their eyeglasses are available and if necessary, place in the mail.
  • Assist in the maintenance of optical frame stock and accessories.
  • Provide support in adjusting and repairing patient eyeglasses.
  • Field and follow up on telephone calls from patients with inquiries about their eyeglasses.
  • Provide input on performance of current inventory frame styles.
  • Locate patients’ applicable vision plans, explain benefits and submit claims.
  • Provide accurate and detailed documentation within patients’ electronic records and optical orders.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
